Atlanta, GA, (August 2, 2008)--DeShawn Snow, star of the Bravo’s upcoming reality series The Real Housewives of Atlanta, concluded her annual Empower Me! Camp for Girls on August 2, as the girls took center stage at the Second Annual Night Under the Stars held at Paul D. West Middle School in East Point, GA. The talent showcase was hosted by rapper Killer Mike, who was so impressed with the level of talent and confidence of the young girls, he vowed to enroll his daughter for next year’s camp. The girls gave creative and innovative performances in dance, song, spoken word, group performances and theatre. Celebrity judges were blown away by the talent and professionalism of the girls, ages 11-17. The judges’ panel included Askia Fountain of Compound Entertainment; William Brooks of Bad Boy South; actor Gary Sturgis of Diary of Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Daddy’s Little Girls; Yvette Caslin, executive editor of Rolling Out UrbanStyle Weekly; Sharon Foote, casting director; and “Q” of R&B group 112.
The talent showcase capped off an empowering and exciting week for over 250 girls. The week included input from such experts and notables as celebrity hairstylist Elijah Cohen, celebrity make-up artist Nyssa Green, Ms. Black Georgia Holly Halayne and author Rachel Vassel (Daughters of Men). The girls started off the week with a visit from Atlanta Dream WNBA stars Chantelle Anderson, Ivory Latta and Alison Bales, who graciously took photos and signed autographs for every girl in attendance. DeShawn Snow looks forward to next year’s Empower Me Camp for Girls with the hopes of extending the length of the camp and the number of girls enrolled. Empower Me Camp for Girls is currently an annual FREE week-long camp in the greater Atlanta area. The camp focuses on workshops that empower, uplift, motivate, encourage and strengthen young girls to equip them to make life choices that will give them a positive start.
